C6 Mercer Island Reporter MIHS drama group presents ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at BCC theater The Mercer Island High School’s drama group, the Mercer Hi Harlequins, takes its spring production of “Romeo and Juliet” to Bellevue Community College Theater for a four night run, at 7:30 p.m., April 22—24 and at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 25. I The cast includes Reid Johnson and Megan Hill in the title roles. Nathan Kaufman plays Mercutio, T-Ray Richardson plays Benvolio, Rachel Ballard plays Juliet’s nurse, Boris Grin plays Tybalt, Mike Kloss appears as Friar Lawrence, Nick Ostrovsky as Paris, and Dan Prince as the Prince. Also featured are Tasha Alexander, Paul Barach, Mike Berkenwald, Brit Browning, Nic Caballero, Joey Coleman, Natalie Feher, Mark Frame, Philip Grin, Gabe Joseph, Tiftin Kidder, Jessica Kilgallon, Linda McBride, Michelle Morse, Suzie Ogden, Julia Ostrovsky, Lauren O’Neill, Jeremy Paige, Wednesday, April 22, 1998 We thank the hundreds who came to dinner, the individuals who gave of their time and money, the Mercer Island School District and City and their employees, and the merchants and organizations listed below, all of whom helped to make the dinner a success for the DARE program. Students have studied modern ballroom dancing for the famous ball scene. Music for Shakespeare’s words in these chorus pieces was written and arranged by student Jessica Salerno. The final production of Center Stage this season, the play was staged by artistic director Steven E. Alter, and is the story of racial tensions fol- lowing the death of a 7-year—old African American boy run over by a car from a rabbi’s motorcade. Deep-seated anger and resentment between blacks and Jews exploded into rage following the incident in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neigh— borhood. . Smith’s play uses excerpts from two—dozen interviews with Crown Heights adversaries, victims and eye- STOP BY OUR OFFICE AND PICK UP OUR witnesses, as well as information from national African—American and Jewish leaders. The show was originally performed as a one—woman show, but the Center Stage production will feature two white and two African—American ac- tors expanding upon Smith’s origi— nal concept and amplifying her ex- ploration of race, identity and cul- 'ture. “Fires In The Mirror” was a fi— nalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and won an Obie Award. The Northwest's only profession- al Jewish theater, Center Stage is lo— cated at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Mercer Island.
